Awareness Through Movement:
Principles and Practice
Tuesdays, starting in November, 2023
9:30-10:30am US Central Standard Time
All orders include an emailed lesson replay. Nick Strauss-Klein leads all dates.
Starting in November, over the next couple of months our class will take a more general approach to the principles and practice of Feldenkrais ATM (Awareness Through Movement) study. Newcomers are very welcome!
Benefits of ATM study typically include reduced pain, performance enhancement (day-to-day/athletic/artistic), self-discovery, and quality of life improvements as we learn to function with more ease, confidence, and pleasure.
Since June our class has been diving deep on specific topics as we studied walking, resilience, and “effortless” strength. We’ll continue exploring many of the same principles from those topics – including grounding, sensing and moving with our whole selves, and proportionality of effort – but we’ll open our investigation wider.
- I’ll highlight the principles at work in each lesson, so we can closely examine how to maximize the quality of life benefits of a personal Feldenkrais practice.
- We’ll study a wide variety of ATM lessons. Ongoing discussion with students will influence my lesson choices. Please contact me with requests for specific lessons or learning topics.
- Some of the lessons will be a fresh look at the basics. At times I’ll be studying and teaching lessons derived from or related to Moshe Feldenkrais’s Awareness Through Movement book ($12 at Amazon, not an affiliate link).
- To deepen our understanding and inspire each other, from time to time we’ll take a couple minutes for questions and reflections from students about their personal Feldenkrais practice. And as always we’ll enjoy unrecorded discussion after class.
This lesson series is an opportunity to be in a lively nurturing dialog of curiosity about the principles and practice of the Feldenkrais Method, so we can move and feel better in all that we do!
See you on the mat,
– Nick
