Back-lying, with brief front and side-lying. A unique combination of internal vertical movements (paradoxical “seesaw” breathing movements) with external vertical movements up and down your mat, leading to a refined vertical organization and sense of the plumb line of gravity when you stand up. Comfort & Configuration:

Because many of our donors are more experienced Feldenkrais students I used fewer “L.E.S.S.S. is more” cues than usual. Please always assume I mean “Light, Easy, Soft, Slow, and Smooth”, and stay within your comfort.

In particular the movements of “bearing down” should never be forceful, despite common associations with that phrase.

 

Clarifications:

When you return to pushing and pulling yourself up and down your mat at around the 50 minute mark, you’ll once again have your knees bent, your feet standing, just like at the beginning of the lesson.

    The question of pain during practice interests me. Sometimes my nervous systems throws pain signals my way for very mysterious reasons. When trying to continue the lesson but not have pain interfere with the learning…it can be challenging. Suggestions?

    Question for ask me anything: How do we transfer the skills/insight we get in class to daily activities like walking, going up stairs, lifting things, walking a dog who has a mind of her own.

    I loved your lesson yesterday…. This morning when I woke up I had a pleasant conscious awareness of my breathing in the stomach region. I love that about Feldenkrais; unknown regions coming into awareness, expanding the inner space of the body and becoming more and more alive (and calm at the same time).
